Livonia (1990), His Name Is Alive's debut album on 4AD, cemented the project's presence among the British label's ethereal legacy, reinventing and refracting the 4AD sound through its own prism. A delicate and slightly disturbed dream pop record, it comprises almost ten years of Warren Defever's home recordings, with the spectral vocal contributions of Karin Oliver. Produced and mixed by Ivo Watts-Russell and John Fryer (This Mortal Coil), the album is a powerful and intriguing statement, with its noisy motifs and textured guitars. Livonia examines the intrinsically linked themes of love and loss as if in a hazy dream.
