« Fire In Orbit » is the first album by the Hill Collective on Batov Records and the most accomplished and intense studio work by the Brighton group to date. Drawing its roots from spiritual jazz, the album combines spontaneity, humor, and raw collective energy with a strong artistic vision. Recorded in three days in a relaxed atmosphere at Sea Breeze studios, the album emphasizes fluidity, interaction, and collective improvisation. Led by alto saxophonist Pete Piskov, the ensemble draws inspiration from Sun Ra, Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, while incorporating Latin rhythms, Arabic sounds, and free improvisation. At its core, « Fire In Orbit » is an allegory of the creative community, capturing the instinctive and free collective work of musicians.
