After several years of silence and a lineup change, Hibushibire returns with Magical Metamorphosis Third Eye, their third album that marks a new beginning for the Osaka trio. Around guitarist and singer Changchang, the new members Tetsuji Toyoda (bass) and Aoi Hama (drums, vocals) develop a repertoire inspired by occultism, mysticism, and psychedelic culture, without losing the humor that characterizes the band. Recorded under the direction of Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple), who also guests on guitar, the album alternates concise compositions like Orangesunshine Of Your Lovemachine and Death Surfin USA with the lengthy epic Ayahuasca Witch Abduction, which occupies the entire second side. This new lineup broadens Hibushibire's sound palette by incorporating more melodic passages and Aoi Hama's vocal contributions, while maintaining the psych rock intensity that has built the band's reputation.
