Musique sacrée et symphonique - Musique de chambre - 3 CD + Livre

Description

Each book-and-disc in the “Portraits” collection is devoted to a French composer now forgotten and presents a varied musical panorama of his work. Théodore Dubois is the absolute model of the “official” composer in Romantic France: he was successively a Prix de Rome winner (1861), organist at La Madeleine (1877), an academician (1894), and director of the Conservatoire (1896), where he had been teaching since 1871. Yet so many honors did his music much harm, being dismissed as academic, and it is important to listen to it again in order to better judge its interest. A significant selection of works, mostly previously unreleased, is presented in this book-and-disc with multiple approaches: biography, excerpts from memoirs, as well as articles discussing the composer’s style and personality.
