Empyrean Isles

Description

Released in 1964, 'Empyrean Isles' is striking in its boldness, featuring risky and powerful solos from the virtuosos accompanying the artist on this album. This record showcases some of the leading figures who would go on to make their mark on the genre's history, such as Ron Carter (Double Bass), Freddie Hubbard (Trumpet), and the young prodigy Tony Williams (Drums). A true legend in jazz history, Herbie Hancock cut his teeth in the early 1960s alongside Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, and Oliver Nelson. He recorded his first album (Takin' Off) on Blue Note in 1962 and, starting in 1963, joined Miles Davis's exceptional, newly reformed quintet.
