Without a doubt, Hélène Grimaud’s most personal project. In it, she explores the power and beauty of water. A true tribute, this album brings together the artist’s two greatest passions: music and nature. The repertoire blends romantic classical pieces with works by Debussy, Liszt, and Ravel, who were themselves fascinated by water; and more contemporary compositions by Nitin Sawhney. Each piece is part of a carefully structured acoustic “flow” shaped by this classical/contemporary mix, while at the same time experimental in its overall aesthetic. Hélène Grimaud is not only one of the world’s most famous pianists, but also an tireless advocate for environmental causes. She notably founded the Wolf Conservation Center, dedicated to protecting wolves and raising public awareness of the essential role these great predators play in our ecosystem. “The idea behind this record is the fascination that water exerted on so many composers of the 19th and 20th centuries,” explains Hélène Grimaud.
