A NEW EDITION OF THE SONIC ASSASSINS CONCERT FROM 1977. INCLUDING ALL UNRELEASED RECORDINGS, MIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES. On December 23, 1977, a unique concert took place at the Queens Hall in Barnstaple, which rightly earned a special place in the history of Hawkwind. Announced on posters as a concert by Dave Brock and the Sonic Assassins, the group brought together members of Hawkwind, Dave Brock and Robert Calvert, as well as future members Harvey Bainbridge (bass), Martin Griffin (drums), and keyboardist Paul Hayles. Designed as a side project of Brock and Calvert, the concert was recorded and included early versions of tracks such as "Freefall" and "Death Trap," as well as an improvised piece that became a classic, later titled "Over The Top," which showcased Robert Calvert at his best level of lyrical improvisation. This concert was subsequently considered to have sown the seeds for the Hawklords group the following year, and for a future formation of Hawkwind. Three tracks from this concert were released in December 1981 in the form of the EP "Sonic Assassins." Mixed from the original master tapes, this CD gathers all the surviving recordings from this remarkable concert.
