A New Shade Of Blue

Description

Wewantsounds announces the reissue of two superb original albums as part of the new Mainstream Records Original Classics series. Recorded in 1971, this superb Harold Land album produced by Bob Shad is by the legendary Harold Land - Bobby Hutcherson Quintet, which recorded a handful of albums highly prized by Deep Jazz enthusiasts between 1967 and 1971. A New Shade Of Blue, recorded in Los Angeles, is one of their best albums and features a superb line-up: Buster Williams on bass, Billy Hart on drums (the rhythm section of Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi Sextet), Bill Henderson on piano and Fender Rhodes, and the young Mtume on percussion. Together with H. Land (sax/flute) and B. Hutcherson (vibraphone), they create a superb sonic journey showcasing a unique sound, both spiritual and serene, thanks to Land's inimitable saxophone and Hutcherson's modal hues. This CD format includes never-before-published session photos by Dick Sanders and new liner notes by Deep Jazz DJ and digger Sam Barbatano (Sunday Jazz, Ktru Houston), as well as the bonus track 'Dark Mood', briefly released in 1974 on a Mainstream Records compilation.
