The Rebels Not In

Description

The Rebels Not In is The Halo Benders' third album, released in 1998. The songs are collaborations between Calvin Johnson and Doug Martsch. If Shakespeare had lived until the late twentieth century and owned a typewriter with a two-fingered, random, compulsive typing style; it's entirely possible he could have written all eleven songs on The Rebels Not In. On their third album, The Halo Benders celebrate the death of alternative rock in an innovative and exciting way. Doug Martsch moans on guitar and vocals, accompanied by Calvin Johnson (guitar and vocals with a strong Jackson Pollock influence), Ralf Youtz (drums and guitar), and Wayne Flower (bass and drums). Steve Fisk makes his usual appearance on various songs playing organ, synthesizer, harmonium, and theremin. The vocals perform somersaults before landing in the fiery hoop of Doug's guitar pyrotechnics. The eleven songs on The Rebels Not In all have various problems to solve, and they always succeed before the end. So enjoy the glory of everything inspired by Bo Diddley, from Buddy Holly to The Mark of the Beast. Like The Halo Benders' first two albums, The Rebels Not In was recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, Washington by Calvin Johnson with technical assistance from Phil Ek. The album was later mixed with Phil Ek at Avast Studio in Seattle, Washington.
