John Ringhofer, the man behind Half-Handed Cloud, is as joyful and frugal as his music. Frugal in spirit, Ringhofer prefers the subway to a taxi, recycles plastic, compulsively takes notes, and is an inveterate optimist. Half-Handed Cloud began as a home studio project in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1999. Ringhofer later settled in the San Francisco Bay Area for over a decade (where he worked as a part-time janitor) before moving with his family to Helsinki, Finland, in 2015 for his wife's linguistics research.
