An ambitious and political album, reflecting this Welsh woman who breaks the codes of pop! Originally from Cardiff, GWENNO SAUNDERS is an established artist, notably thanks to her performances in the group The Pipettes and in the collective Canolfan Hamdden. She is simultaneously leading a project where she is in the spotlight, GWENNO, within which she plays with pop codes and distills a modern kraut-pop. Her new album Y Dydd Olaf is inspired by a Welsh science fiction novel written by Owain Owain in the 70s where robots transformed the human race into clones after making them swallow medication. GWENNO manages to address important themes (patriarchal society, political propaganda, cultural control, etc.) while combining it with precise and powerful music, thus confirming her indie turn, rooted in 70s German Krautrock (Malcolm Neon, Llwybr Llaethog, Datblygu) or in an experimental electronic scene (Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire).
