Description

"Gurl" is the first album by the trio GURL. After two EPs marked by distinct creative processes, the band asserts a new approach to composition here and lays the foundations for a more structured and assertive artistic universe. Designed as a self-titled album, this first full-length is meant to be a statement of intent: a clear and assertive proposition of the band's musical identity. The album brings together tracks written by Alexis Krasowski over a period of three years, in the intimate space of a room that has become both a place of creation, reflection, and experimentation. This environment profoundly shapes the project, whose tracklist acts as a temporal marker of this period. The compositions gain in maturity and richness, with more varied influences and a more accomplished writing style. The lyrics, reworked in collaboration with Cédric Arnaud Akah, reflect a particular attention to both content and form, through a partnership developed over more than a year. Musically, the rhythm section becomes denser: the drums, conceived in close relation to the guitar, lay down more assertive foundations, both precise and impactful. From this base, Alexis develops the arrangements (bass, percussion, vocals, choirs, synthesizers) in a logic of progressive experimentation. Each demo is thus constructed in an intimate setting, a room, allowing for total creative freedom and an in-depth exploration of sound textures, before moving to the studio. Staying true to this approach, the trio chooses to record and mix the album autonomously, within the studio of Alexis Riey, the band's drummer and sound engineer for the project. This choice reinforces the album's sonic uniqueness and ensures overall artistic coherence. Blending indie rock, lo-fi influences, surf rock, and folk legacies, GURL shapes a first album that is both personal and ambitious.
