In 1968, brothers Paul and Adrian Gurvitz along with Louie Farrell formed the band The Gun, a British group considered one of the greatest influences on many giants of hard rock and metal in the seventies and eighties. The band originated from the rock group The Knack, which was formed in 1965. Under this name, they were already opening for bands such as Pink Floyd, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, and Tomorrow. After changing their name in 1967, the band immediately signed with CBS and achieved a top 10 hit on the UK Single Chart with "Race with the Devil." Despite their dissolution in 1970, their influence was immense. For example, Jimi Hendrix cited the riff from their hits during the famous concert at the Isle of Wight Festival. Additionally, Judas Priest, Status Quo, and Girlschool have covered the band. It can be said without risk that The Gun had a huge influence on the British hard rock scene and that their first album is still considered a must-have among rock collectors.
