Guiss Guiss Bou Bess, founded by the modern griot Mara Seck and producer Stéph Costantini, is taking a new step in the dialogue between the ancestral rhythms of sabar and today’s electro pulses: this year, it was the borders they pushed back by performing concerts in Africa, Europe, and Latin America, with a 15-date tour in Brazil and Colombia. A unique opportunity for Afro-Latino audiences to reconnect with their African roots. Beyond the concerts, their musical explorations are paving the way for new Afro, Latino, and Electro collaborations. And this momentum is also reflected in the group’s first vinyl release: a special edition of the album TIK TIK, celebrating the path traveled since 2018. TIK TIK takes its name from the onomatopoeia of sabar: the sharp, rapid call of the sticks that opens the dance. TIK TIK also refers to the “meduses,” the iconic plastic shoes worn by young street footballers, which the group still wears on stage. On this vinyl album, each track is a breath of urban trance where the drum speaks, tells, provokes, and blends with machines to invent a unique sonic space.
