En Toute Pyromanie

Description

After the album PIGMENTS & the clarinet choir (Yolk J2083) dedicated to the poems of the Guyanese Léon-Gontran Damas, founder with Aimé Césaire and Léopold Sédar Senghor of the négritude movement, Guillaume Hazebrouck continues his dream of a "francophone jazz poetry" and sets out to explore the universe of James Noël, a figure of contemporary Haitian literature known as a performance poet, novelist, and founder of the journal IntranQu'îllités.From his collection "Le Pyromane adolescent" (Éditions Mémoire d'Encrier, 2013. Reprint, Points/Seuil, 2015) the musician extracts twelve poems which he immerses in a syncretic sound universe blending jazz, contemporary music, and hip-hop.Surrounded by a singular instrumentation, clarinets, keyboards, bass, beatbox, spoken and sung voices respond to one another. The music textures the scansion and the whole is an intense outpouring of meaning and sound. From collages to creolization is born a musical suite where the crash of an island, epicenter of planetary chaos, is heard and where, amid blood, fire, and laughter, a new poetics of the world arises.
