Since 2011, the New Yorkers in Guerilla Toss, an experimental dance-punk band, have always defied convention. For their new album *You're Weird Now*, recorded in Vermont, singer Kassie Carlson made a habit of preparing what she called a "punk lunch": an impromptu communal meal made by rummaging through the studio refrigerator and assembling sandwiches with the most improbable ingredients. This "punk lunch" was often shared with two legends of experimental music: Stephen Malkmus (Pavement, The Jicks) and Trey Anastasio, the guitarist of Phish and owner of The Barn studio. Malkmus produced the album, with Bryce Goggin (Pavement’s engineer) and Ben Collette (Phish’s engineer) also on board. The idea of seeing these iconic musicians share an improvised meal in a studio may seem absurd, but it makes sense for Guerilla Toss. The band embodies the natural bridge between varied musical worlds—the punks of Pavement, the fans of Phish, and even the eccentrics of Primus. Their sonic universe is a place where all musical ideas belong, and where everyone is welcome. *You're Weird Now*, their fifth album and second under the Sub Pop label, is a celebration of boundless creativity. Guerilla Toss reaffirms the importance of authenticity and self-confidence in staying true to their artistic vision. One of the album's highlights is "Red Flag to Angry Bull," which ends with a Malkmus and Carlson duet, featuring an Anastasio-penned Phish-style guitar solo. Light blue vinyl edition.
