For the second installment of our Cuban Classics series, we are proud to present this sought-after slice of sublime Afro-Cuban jazz from 1976. It is courtesy of one of the most influential groups in Cuba, Grupo Irakere. Founded in 1973 by Chucho Valdés (son of the Cuban pianist and bandleader Bebo Valdés), the group has welcomed over the years several of the best Cuban musicians. With an electrifying style and sound, they blend traditional Cuban music with jazz, funk, and rock.
Pressed on Areito Records, a Cuban state-owned company, the album was well received internationally, being distributed in Finland on Love Records, in Italy on Phase 6 Super Stereo, as well as in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Venezuela.
A much-appreciated Afro-Cuban triumph, this album demanded a reissue and we are thrilled that it is happening.
