Never before had the lyrics of Peruvian cumbia been able to touch the reality of rural migrants living in the capital, Lima. In 1974, Grupo Celeste, under the direction of Víctor Casahuamán Bendezú, recorded "En el campo," a debut single that not only broke sales records but also allowed thousands of people to reconnect with their homeland. The group not only wove the threads of this urgent and necessary reconnection but also gave rise to one of the most important popular singers in the history of Peru: Lorenzo Palacios Quispe, better known as "Chacalón."
