Greg Freeman thrives by finding emotional catharsis and current resonance in the eccentric ugliness of the past. On his second LP Burnover, set to be released on August 22 via Canvasback Music/Transgressive Records, the Maryland-born artist based in Burlington, Vermont, uses the complicated context of the Northeast to sing about grief, alienation, and the clarity that comes from being open to love. Explosive, unsettling, and undeniable, the 10 tracks blend energetic indie rock with wandering twang.
