180-gram vinyl. This 50th-anniversary edition features the newly remastered original 1973 album by engineer David Glasser using the Plangent Process. The first true archival album from the Grateful Dead, this 'Bear's Choice' album was produced as a tribute to Pigpen shortly after his passing by sound engineer Owsley Stanley, aka Bear. Drawing from concerts recorded three years earlier at New York's Fillmore East, 'Bear's Choice' captures the Dead at a pivotal moment in their history, as the band was about to record 'Workingman's Dead,' becoming pioneers of Americana while retaining their psychedelic roots. Three of the album's eight songs are sung by Pigpen. Side 1 (Katie Mae, Dark Hollow, I've Been All Around This World, Wake Up Little Susie, Black Peter) marks the debut of Acoustic Dead, while Side 2 delivers electric Blues and Rock & Roll (Smokestack Lightnin', Hard To Handle).
