When the chatter of the world fades to a whisper and emptiness replaces clutter, time completely dissolves, revealing a vast open canvas, and the imagination fills with reflection, contemplation, and abstraction. In their first collaborative album, released via Caterina Barbieri's Light Year label, Grand River and Abul Mogard gaze longingly into the abyss, confidently capturing timelessness, splendor, and tranquility with impressionistic sound strokes. Dynamic and poignant, "In uno spazio immenso" balances on a razor's edge between soaring operatic grandeur and artistic blur, simplicity, shedding light on both the subtle and illusory contours, rhythms as well as its dense, almost overwhelming textures. Aimée Portioli, the Italian-Dutch composer and sound designer based in Berlin, known as Grand River, has been evolving her unique musical language since she released 'Crescente' on Spazio Disponibile in 2017. A trained linguist, she uses her instrumentation and an advanced process to challenge cultural perceptions, describing emotions and moods rather than fixed visual images. Abul Mogard, meanwhile, is just one of the many projects of seasoned Italian producer Guido Zen. A pseudonym, and a series of critically acclaimed albums for labels like Ecstatic and VCO, it is a blend of fiction and harsh reality, trembling with kosmische synth fantasies in a post-industrial atmosphere and happy shoegaze memories.
