The Day The Earth Stood Still

Description

GRAAMH was formed in 2009 by Vincent Dray and Alain Sczsygloswki, two musical companions who tuned their instruments to sixties sounds and post-punk productions (The Sound, Echo And The Bunnymen). The band's music and lyrics are constantly filled with disenchanted and lyrical snapshots that traverse the long history of revolutions, both flourishing and aborted. The band's name is a variation of the character Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of acoustic sound: the distortion reflects the accidents, ruptures, and experiments explored by the band. GRAAMH is a procession of photographs and cross-influences that speak volumes about the musical identity of its founders. The band members are not "conceptualists"; they explore their ideas and experiences in a true, rugged, tortuous, and tumultuous rock, recorded as it should be without thinking about how the record should sound. Instinctively! In 2010, the project took on a new dimension when the band met Nicolas Kantorowicz, aka Niko Kantes from Sporto Kantes. This visionary of alternative music, movements, and crossovers helped and advised in the creation and production of the first two EPs and set the members of Graamh on the path to a first album. He was captivated by the founders' journey, their inspirations, and their respective influences that combine through New Wave melodies and sixties sounds. The whole is carried by simple harmonic schemes; it is framed by progressive rhythmic formulas made of haunting guitars with stripped-down chords straight out of the "Heavenly Voices" of 4AD giants (Cocteau Twins) and embalmed by furious bursts of chorus and flanger. "The Day The Earth Stood Still," GRAAMH's first studio album, is part of a post-punk movement, knowing its classics inside out while remaining furiously modern.
