Beijing's Gong Gong Gong and Taipei's Mong Tong join forces on *Mongkok Duel*, an album conceived as the imaginary soundtrack to a lost kung fu film. Known for their raw and cinematic sound, the two groups fuse transglobal melodies and hypnotic grooves to serve a sonic narrative steeped in honor, intrigue, and vengeance. Part of Gong Gong Gong's long-running collaborative Rhythm n' Drone series, *Mongkok Duel* highlights each band's singular aesthetic. Cyclical motorik, evolving drones, textured effects, roaring guitars, and rumbling bass lines combine to build a dense and captivating common language. The album was written and recorded live in the legendary President Piano Co. studios in Mongkok, Hong Kong. Using the instruments and amplifiers dating back to the venue's founding in 1978, the musicians also benefit from a unique recording system designed by its owner, Mr. Lee King Yat. The result: a deliberate vintage patina, combined with remarkable sound clarity.
