IN THE CHOIR, A MORE INTIMATE ALBUM - After a five-track EP and then a first album praised for its originality in the French-language pop field, Goël returns in a more stripped-down, folk and decidedly contemporary form. The taste for carefully crafted arrangements remains intact and serves a pointillist orchestration, where crystalline guitar arpeggios are supported by a viola, a bass clarinet and keyboard textures on the edge of ambient. This desire for clarity has also reached the voice and the lyrics which, in this soothing atmosphere, assert themselves even more strongly with this very distinctive writing, precise, concrete and rooted in the long term. As the album unfolds, we discover a new gallery of characters, animals - again! - and settings viewed from very far away or very close up, depending on the mood. We also find this way of weaving small fables with enigmatic morals, but which take root in the reality of objects or landscapes of all kinds, maritime, terrestrial, urban... By Goël's own admission, these twelve songs contain figures evoked by childhood memories and, more broadly, more personal lyrics. The choir mentioned in the title is also the one that fills and animates memory, the one in which we hear the departed as well as the living.
