An eminent interpreter of Vivaldi, Giuliano Carmignola has always had a particular and spiritual affinity with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, as evidenced by his benchmark recordings of the Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord (2002, with Andrea Marcon), the Violin Concertos (2014, with Concerto Köln – Diapason d’or), and the Sonatas and Partitas (2018), which Gramophone described as "clearly a first-rate choice among the period instrument recordings of these works, despite the competition." With this new project, which took shape in 2020 in response to the isolation caused by the pandemic, the great Venetian violinist offers us a fresh, sometimes even experimental interpretation of another famous collection for solo instrument, the Cello Suites, highlighting new details and exalting the choreutic character and brilliance of many movements. Already a key player in the success of Sonar in Ottava with his long-time friend Mario Brunello, Carmignola here inaugurates a collaboration with Arcana for a series of solo projects.
