Mahjong Room is Cameron Lew's second album, released under the moniker Ginger Root. It explores his coming-of-age and the discovery of his unique musical style, which he himself calls "Aggressive Elevator Soul." Self-produced and performed by Lew, this album marked the beginning of Ginger Root's growing popularity, far beyond his hometown of Huntington Beach. Lew was still a film student during the recording and release of Mahjong Room, and he paid significant attention to the music videos for the singles "Two Step," "Call it Home," "Jeanie," "Mahjong Room," and "Ohio." These humorous videos, which became Ginger Root's trademark, were directed and produced by Lew himself. Noticed by other touring indie artists, Ginger Root spent most of Fall 2018 opening for Khruangbin, Durand Jones & The Indications, The Marias, and Omar Apollo.
