BURN THE HOUSE DOWN

Description

Situated in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ghalia Volt is a singer, guitarist, drummer, and songwriter of blues-rock born in Belgium whose dynamic and raw music blends roots, hill country blues, garage, and rock 'n' roll influences. After honing her craft as a street artist in Europe and immersing herself in American roots music, Volt has released five critically acclaimed albums — including Shout Sister Shout!, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums Chart. Burn the House Down, Ghalia's sixth album, showcases her raw energy and vast musical vision as she continues to define her place in modern blues and roots rock.
Recorded in Nashville with producer JD Simo, these 11 songs highlight the full range of her influences. There’s the huffle style of John Lee Hooker in “Lucifer's Grip.” The juke joint grooves of “Let Yo' Hair Down.” The Hill Country blues of “Where Do We Go.” The nocturnal rock & roll of “Mine.” Even the flamenco textures of her childhood make an appearance. Recorded over two days of live studio performances, Burn the House Down explores her own geography, using blues as a springboard for an album that crosses boundaries and obliterates the very idea of genre.
