Charles Baudelaire and jazz: how can the genius of the French poet (1821-1867) be linked to Afro-American music, born more than half a century after his death? This seemingly impossible encounter calls for a visionary sensibility and a deep knowledge of poetry and music — qualities possessed by pianist-composer Gerardo Iacoucci and singer Paola Massero, long a French teacher and deeply connected to the Italian language and literature. For this “invitation to travel in search of suggestive synesthesias,” in Paola Massero’s words, a special occasion was needed. In 2018, she was invited to La Forza della Poesia, a cultural initiative in collaboration with two Roman universities, which devoted its VIII edition to Charles Baudelaire.
