'Cooking' is the album by Géraldine Laurent, produced by Laurent de Wilde. Géraldine wanted to call this record Cooking. Because in music as in cooking, it is a team effort to balance each ingredient for the all-too-ephemeral perfection of the final result. Because an album is conceived like a meal and it is possible to have taste buds in your ears. Because giving pleasure is organized, weighed, tasted. Laurent de Wilde explains: "Four years ago, in February 2015, Géraldine Laurent recorded the album At Work with this quartet, a true profession of faith in a rhythmic, lively and boundless jazz. Since then, many concerts, trips, ferment and surprises, material for everything that permeates music and makes up the life of a band. And what a band! They found each other well... On double bass, Yoni Zelnik, faithful to Geraldine since her beginnings and whose roundness of sound and impeccable precision make him irreplaceable; on drums, Donald Kontomanou, perfectly at ease in the rhythmic mazes drawn by the saxophonist and with a musicality that is always surprising; on piano, Paul Lay, who today enjoys a brilliant career as a soloist, illuminating the quartet with his multicolored flashes... And of course Géraldine. Freer and more fiery than ever. Her music can be built around a phrase, or develop at length on contemplative forms, but there is always an urgency, a presence that lights up every second of her playing. In her relentless quest for the true emotions of jazz, we hear her traversed by the souls of Rollins, Dolphy, Coltrane, Hawkins or Parker, all resolutely striving toward the same goal...
