Under the name Geologist, Brian Weitz unveils his very first true solo album, *Can I Get a Pack of Camel Lights?*. A central figure in the underground scene since adolescence and a founding member of Animal Collective, he emancipates himself here to explore a singular question: what if Ethan James had recorded a hurdy-gurdy album for SST in the 80s? The result takes the form of a shifting soundscape, dominated by the hurdy-gurdy, transformed into an electro-acoustic instrument with multiple facets. Living memory and musical drift intertwine: one hears reminiscences of traditional rituals, krautrock, jazz-prog, post-punk, and minimalism, carried by organic rhythms and chiaroscuro textures. Inspired by late-blooming trajectories like those of Bill Orcutt or Susan Alcorn, Weitz composes between intuition, free structures, and improvisations.
