My One And Only Thrill

Description

Bel bird today aged twenty-three and from Philadelphia, whose flight was interrupted by a traffic accident, but who made it through by recording, during her recovery, a first 6-track album that fell from the sky (Some Lessons: The Bedroom Sessions), then this Worrisome Heart that illuminated the spring for vocal jazz lovers in 2008, Melody Gardot allows herself, this time, the total experience. While her first album shone with an intimate side that contributed to making her, for a season, one of the best-kept secrets of showbiz, My One And Only Thrill is all about a journey in "sonoroscope." Filled with enchanting original compositions that Melody insisted on signing and to which the string and orchestra arranger Vince Mendoza gives a stunning relief, this second CD sees her evolve between the ghosts of Peggy Lee and Frank Sinatra, assuming that the latter had recorded with Bernard Herrmann. Serious and imbued with nostalgia, the title track is the mirror in which all the others reflect, notably this cover of Over The Rainbow that Melody enhances with a subtle Latin touch that also characterizes this record that gives chills. At only 24 years old and 2 albums, she has conquered the planet and is now on her way to becoming the Jazz Diva of the next decade. Melody Gardot's first album was titled 'Worrisome Heart' and, according to the English weekly 'The Sunday Times', this record testified to "remarkable, undeniable talent," with serene songs of a poetry full of nostalgia, served by subtle arrangements. And now her new album 'My One And Only Thrill' released in April 2009 represents a great artistic leap and is on its way to becoming a double gold record. In this deluxe version, digipack enhanced with a new booklet (photos, texts), we find the eleven songs from the edition and an additional CD containing 5 live tracks from the concert recorded on September 10 in studio 105 of the Maison de la Radio in Paris. 27 minutes of pure pleasure where we discover an incredible Melody Gardot of precision and maturity, 5 tracks of great emotional diversity. Four tracks signed by her own hand, The Rain, Baby I'm A Fool, My One and Only Thrill, Love Me Like a River Does and an unreleased track, the cover of Ain't No Sunshine, the irresistible hit by Bill Withers. One would need to have a heart of stone to remain indifferent to this limited edition. And when the album is finished (as Irving Berlin so rightly said), the song is over, but Melody lingers....
