Gang Gang Dance is the result of several unlikely bands, experimental quintets, and synthetic duos in the vein of Suicide. Once leaders of a "neo-tribal" scene in New York, Gang Gang Dance is now an electro-rock band. Brian Degraw explains this by their diverse experiments, but the band retains its taste for tribalism, a hallmark of their music.
Seven years after their first album for 4AD, *Eye Contact*, they are back with a sixth opus titled *Kazuashita*, featuring Lizzi Bougatsos on vocals, whose ethereal voice is reminiscent of a certain Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins. Brian DeGraw and Josh Diamond are, as usual, on production, once again blending diverse influences, particularly Indian and Afghan, to reinvent their shoegaze infused with ambient electronics, as heard on the excellent "Young Boy (Marika in Amerika)".
This album was produced from several recording sessions in various New York studios and art spaces with the help of Ryan Sawyer (Thurston Moore, TV On The Radio, Massive Attack) and Jorge Elbrecht (the prodigious savant behind Violens and producer for Au Revoir Simone and Frankie Rose).
