Description

Latest release from the InFiné label and sixth studio album by Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains, this cheerful and muted record has nothing to envy its predecessors. It flows with ease and shines as much through the richness of its style as through the fluidity of producer Siau's arrangements. Among others, Malik Djoudi and his enchanting pop, Thomas de Pourquery, the jazzman everyone wants, and British folk artist Rozi Plain came to lend a hand to F&AM. Three delightful collaborations that blend wonderfully with the 10 tracks that make up the album. But that's not all. The fluidity of the work is also felt in the flavor of certain compositions, like the very upbeat "Où mène la nuit," a kind of mystical questioning about the whirlwind of youth. Or "Aïeul inconnu," whose apparent melancholy perfectly matches its elegant groove. "Adorer," the duet with Thomas de Pourquery, is an infectious production that leaps headfirst into the joy of the ''''present moment''''. The album was built over four long years, marked by the pandemic, during which he reformed his band and navigated between two labels, first Domino before turning to InFiné. Then the death of his father turned everything upside down and restarted the desiring machine of memory, which he translates in his own way: "Since I lost my father during the pandemic, this question of origins has resurfaced with the memories." The outcome? Âge Fleuve, then, or rather a "liquid inspiration" built on a memorial heritage. And when you dig into the mystery of this heritage, the answer emerges, as if obvious: "We are here, under this spot on the river, further downstream. And everything communicates, everything is in motion." In other words, an album oscillating in the current of our sensory, intimate, and universal heritage.
