Been Thinking Bout Confession

Description

been thinking about confession is the third album by Frances Chang and her first with RVNG Intl. Between experimental and synthetic pop, this opus explores the depths of oneself through 11 tracks mainly written on a century-old piano. The artist, born in Chicago to immigrant parents, unfolds a complex soundscape blending orchestral arrangements and electronic or analog interventions. Inspired by cinema, literature, and the video game King's Quest, Frances creates a world that is both digital and physical, where her intuitive voice serves as an emotional thread. After starting in the underground punk scene with Giant Peach and two acclaimed solo albums, she has made a name for herself in composing music for political art films. Co-produced by Andréa Schiavelli (Eyes of Love) in Brooklyn and Queens, and mastered by Sarah Register (Kim Gordon, Black Midi, Faye Webster), the album blurs the lines between truth and illusion, evoking a personal confession addressed to oneself rather than to a third party. Musically influenced by Björk, Broadcast, and Burt Bacharach, she favors the piano here over her usual guitar, creating a dilated temporal work. The record features collaborations with a string quartet, drummers, and saxophonists.
