It is a deep dive into the corners of the duo's creativity, a tearing up of the rules, and a reinvention of Franc Moody's sound that shows a more mature side than previous works. Recorded partly at 64 Sounds Studio in Los Angeles and at Damon Albarn's Studio 13 in West London, the album's sounds are heavily influenced by Albarn's collection of synthesizers (particularly certain tracks on the album), as well as concerts by Massive Attack and LCD Soundsystem, making it an album perhaps a little less disco, but with a sense of grunge, aggression, and attitude.
