Description

Alba is the first recording of the duo formed for 6 years now by trumpeter Markus Stockhausen and pianist Florian Weber. The compositions of the album thus traverse a particularly wide aesthetic palette and a diversity of dramatic moods - from the joyful melody of "Befreiung" (Liberation) to the contained optimism of "Better World", through the icy sobriety of "Die weise Zauberin" (The wise sorceress) or the mysteriously intimate mood of "Emilio" (a piece written for Florian's son)... Their relationships to jazz being very different, the two musicians find common ground in their interest in creation and its exploratory processes. Thus, in Alba, we find the legacy of Markus's father, Karlheinz Stockhausen, the "intuitive music". The boundaries between composition and improvisation blur insensibly, delivering subtle contrasts and constantly changing in mood and feeling, giving the music a unique poetic power.
