The reissue features original artwork by Lemi Ghariokwu, the creator behind half of Fela's album covers. 'Yellow Fever' was originally released in 1976, during Fela’s extraordinarily prolific purple period (1975-77), a period during which he released 24 albums in Nigeria alone. The title track is one of Fela's masterpieces. Sung in pidgin English, a language he adopted to make his words understood beyond Yoruba speakers, the lyrics rail against the fashion for skin-lightening creams. [Excerpt from historian Chris May]
