Description

The groundbreaking album Alagbon Close, where Fela Kuti masterfully fused music and politics to create the classic Afrobeat paradigm in 1974. Reissue of the famous "Alagbon Close" on colored vinyl for the album's 50th anniversary. Fela Kuti's "Alagbon Close" is named after the criminal police headquarters in Lagos. The title track recounts two police raids on Fela's home in 1974, searching for drugs without success. Arrested, Fela was imprisoned for three days, but his fellow inmates helped him swap the evidence. Upon his release, he named his home "Kalakuta Republic." "Alagbon Close" denounces the violence and impunity of the Nigerian police.
