Roforofo Fight

Description

50th Anniversary Edition of this Fela Kuti classic, on double coloured vinyl. In 1972, the year of the original release of "Roforofo Fight", Fela became one of West Africa's most followed musicians. His audience was largely made up of the region's urban poor, the "sufferheads", living in the shantytowns around the big cities, as well as a growing number of students and political dissidents. Fela championed and sang about the problems of the oppressed and exploited and denounced the ruling elites who made the laws, the powerful elites who dominated them, with their seemingly endemic corruption and their ready recourse to violence to crush dissent - and because he generally sang in broken English rather than Yoruba, and adopted an increasingly pan-Africanist perspective, his message resonated throughout English-speaking Africa.
