Born on February 26, 1928, in New Orleans, Fats Domino juxtaposed ragtime, boogie-woogie, Cajun melodies and Latin rhythms and helped, in the early 1950s, invent what became, under the impetus of Elvis Presley — whom he had inspired — rock'n'roll: thus, his first hit, The Fat Man (1949) — which played on his nickname linked to his corpulence — is often considered the first track in the history of this musical genre. He also influenced groups such as the Beatles, with the song Lady Madonna (1968) being a tribute to his music.
