This reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1971 version from Island Records UK in a gatefold sleeve and is pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl. Released in June 1971, Angel Delight is the first of two albums by Fairport Convention as a quartet, following the departure of founding member Richard Thompson in January. The band lived in a converted pub, The Angel, in Hertfordshire, where they worked on the album's material, another blend of traditional and original. The title track was a play on the time they spent at the pub, and a nod to the popular British dessert of the same name, serving as a joyful catalog of their life at the time, referencing producer John Wood as "John The Wood" and drummer Dave Mattacks as "Dave The Drum." It also mentions the day a truck crashed into the pub, which, had Dave Swarbrick been in his room at that moment, could have killed him. The album, Fairport's only record in the Top 10 of the UK charts, is also known for its traditional medley of jigs and reels, The Cuckoo's Nest, the beautiful ballad Wizard Of The Worldly Game, and the band's version of the English folk song The Bonny Black Hare.
