ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN is a legendary French underground band from the 1970s, formed by Chris CHANET (aka Eulalie RUYNAT, saxophonist and singer), Guigou CHENEVIER (Drummer), and Ferdinand RICHARD (Bassist and guitarist). This iconic figure of the French underground scene showcased humor and derision in their delightfully off-kilter music. This incredible trio cheerfully overturned all rock music conventions, venturing into wild, humorous, rhythmic music, akin to CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, Albert MARCOEUR, or ZNR. This unique music can be perfectly defined as a most twisted encounter between BOURVIL and CAPTAIN BEEFHEART... No less! It's no wonder that ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN was the French representative in the Rock In Opposition movement led by Chris CUTLER! "Batelages" was initially released in November 1976, while "Les Trois Fou's Perdégagnent - Au Pays Des..." was recorded the following year. Francis GRAND (Saxophone) replaced Chris CHANET on this occasion. "Les Poumons Gonflés" dates from 1982 and was produced by Fred FRITH (HENRY COW). "Les Sillons De La Terre" (1984) and "Face Aux Elements Déchaînés" (1985) complete the band's discography, the latter marking a return to the original trio formula, with Jo THIRION replacing Chris CHANET. The triple-CD "43 Songs" compiles all of ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN's studio work. The only album not yet reissued on CD, the live "En Public Aux Etats-Unis D'Amérique" (1979), has just been re-released on Gazul, allowing us to rediscover their live music, full of winks, subversive musical appropriations, boldness, and musical madness. Full of energy and a sense of delirium, their inspired free-jazz is a musical experience you won't soon forget! "A Prague," the tenth volume in the Les Zut-O-Pistes collection, is an exceptional document. Indeed, until the end of the 1980s, very few rock bands, of all genres, managed to perform in Eastern Europe. ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN, one of the best-known and most creative in alternative music, made several incursions beyond the Iron Curtain, including a concert in the Czechoslovak capital on November 13, 1984. The band, then supported in its recordings by Fred FRITH, who became their artistic producer, was in its most fertile period. Adding the geographical, political, and human context, this album appears today as an intense, moving, and in a word, memorable recording!
