Description

Ethan James Startzman is a synesthete with chromesthesia, meaning his brain converts sounds into colors and shapes, and this album is an attempt to use sounds to "paint" an image. Shamanic Verse is an audio journey through dark forests, frozen and lonely mountains, and bustling cities, using Eurorack modular synthesis and the meditative technique of following sounds to their next evolutionary destination to create a film score-like atmosphere. Ethan started as a dancer, eventually becoming a professional ballet dancer, and then discovered music after an injury ended his career. Originally a bassist, he has played all styles of music, from country to rock to salsa, but he also works as a film composer in his hometown of New York. His cinematic works are primarily orchestral and experimental electronic.
