Common practice
Description
After releasing last year on ECM Temporary Kings, an album in duo with saxophonist Mark Turner, and previously participating in two records of the Billy Hart Quartet for the label - pianist Ethan Iverson presents himself this time at the head of his own quartet in a program of standards and blues recorded live in Manhattan at the legendary Village Vanguard club. The quartet led by Iverson in Common Practice features as its main melodic voice the venerable Tom Harrell, voted Trumpeter of the Year in 2018 by the American Jazz Journalists Association. Iverson highlights the quality of 'vulnerability' that Harrell demonstrates in his playing, particularly in ballads like 'The Man I Love' and 'Polka Dots and Moonbeams', two of the album's highlights. But Common Practice is also driven throughout by an irresistible swing, thanks to a fiery rhythm section composed of bassist Ben Street and drummer Eric McPherson, whose synergy and inventiveness greatly contribute to the success of the famous bebop theme by Denzil Best 'Wee' as well as to two original blues by Iverson of great beauty.Buy Common practice at the best price
