Dalmak (180gr +MP3)

Description

When Esmerine released La Lechuza in 2011, their return after 6 years away, the band marked a new chapter in its history: the desire to continue exploring new horizons and multiplying collaborations. Bruce Cawdron (marimba) stepped down from his position as drummer with GodspeedYou ! Black Emperor in 2012 to focus fully on Esmerine, alongside cellist Rebecca Foon (Silver Mt Zion, Set Fire To Flames, Saltland). They recruited percussionist Jamie Thompson (Unicorns, Islands) and multi-instrumentalist Brian Sanderson as permanent members in order to strengthen the band and form a true quartet. While touring Europe in 2011-2012, Esmerine was invited to undertake a residency in Istanbul. Dalmak is the result of this stay: the 4 Canadians collaborated with Turkish musicians (Hakan Vreskala, Baran A..k, Ali Kazim Akda., James Hakan Dedeo.l). In Turkish, Dalmak is a verb with multiple connotations: to contemplate, to be absorbed, to immerse oneself in something... The idea of immersion in the culture and music of Istanbul would then be the meaning given to the album title.
