Dalmak (180gr +MP3)

Description

When Esmerine released *La Lechuza* in 2011, their return after a 6-year hiatus, the band marked a new chapter in its history: the desire to continue exploring new horizons and multiplying collaborations. Bruce Cawdron (marimba) retired from his position as drummer in Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2012 to fully focus on Esmerine, alongside cellist Rebecca Foon (Silver Mt Zion, Set Fire To Flames, Saltland). They recruited percussionist Jamie Thompson (Unicorns, Islands) and multi-instrumentalist Brian Sanderson as permanent members to solidify the band and form a true quartet. On tour in Europe in 2011-2012, Esmerine was invited to undertake a residency in Istanbul. *Dalmak* is the result of this stay; the four Canadians collaborated with Turkish musicians (Hakan Vreskala, Baran Aşık, Ali Kazim Akdağ, James Hakan Dedeoğlu). In Turkish, *Dalmak* is a verb with multiple connotations: to contemplate, to be absorbed, to plunge into something... The idea of immersion in Istanbul's culture and music would therefore be the meaning given to the album's title.
