ATTENTION MASTERPIECE! Light in the Attic reissues one of the great forgotten folk-rock records. Includes a booklet with new interviews with Kauffman and Caboor by Sam Sweet and previously unseen photos. The LP includes a download card. The Colorado Bridge that connects Pasadena to Los Angeles, nicknamed the “Suicide Bridge,” was the scene of a very large number of suicides. The deserted bridge is the setting for a photoshoot in which the songwriters ERIC CABOOR and DAVID KAUFFMAN pose, resulting in the photo and title that adorn the cover of their majestic debut album, Songs From Suicide Bridge, released in 1984. CABOOR and KAUFFMAN met in the coffee shops of Los Angeles. Each of them used to play in venues that were often nearly empty. According to Kauffman, “they were two lonely people who joined forces.” After two years trying to find a label, they gave up. With the industry focusing on new wave or pop, a folk rock group had no place. As a final jab, they decided to record their darkest album. Recorded on a 4-track, Songs From Suicide Bridge was released on their label Donkey Soul Music. Only 500 copies were pressed. It is a work of breathtaking beauty, which fully deserves its place among the greatest Americana records. In the end, there is a great deal of hope in it. “People told us these songs are depressing,” says CABOOR to Sam Sweet for the booklet of this reissue. “But it wasn’t depressing for us. Playing these songs in a small room allowed us to feel better.”
