ER Jurken’s songwriting, already acclaimed on his debut album I Stand Corrected, traverses the past century of American music with a unique, carefree touch. On his first record, Ed played most of the instruments himself, delivering an intimate song cycle about fall and redemption, with a minimalist production oscillating between brilliance and melancholy. To Be Continued, his second album, sees Jurken backed by a power trio from Chicago’s Junegrass, propelling his baroque folk-pop fantasies towards more electric horizons. His celestial tenor and accompanying backing vocals reveal a tormented spirit sublimated by Paul Von Mertens’ string and brass arrangements, which elevate each track above the miseries of everyday life. Five years after his debut album, a period marked by the pandemic, political upheaval, and intense personal experiences, Ed explored new musical textures and song structures, with the support of his collaborators at The Loft and the addition of Jonathan Kult on piano.
