The album The Song Is You is a collaboration between Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava and American pianist Fred Hersch. It marks a summit meeting between two great masters of modern jazz, who share a deep affection for tradition and an innate sense of melody.
Recorded in the superb acoustics of the Lugano studio, this album particularly highlights the sparkling sounds of the piano and flugelhorn.
Rava and Hersch explore a selection of the most beloved standards in the repertoire: Jerome Kern's 'The Song Is You', Thelonious Monk's 'Mysterioso' and 'Round Midnight', Carlos Jobim's 'Retrato em Branco e Preto', and George Bassman's 'I’m Getting Sentimental Over You'.
They also perform some of their own compositions, including Fred Hersch's 'Child’s Song' and Enrico Rava's 'The Trial', and improvise throughout with great freedom.
