Clair-Obscur

Between sea and mountains, modality and polyphonies, Clair-obscur was born from the desire for an in-depth dialogue between the musicians of Constantinople and the singers of A Filetta, the leading ensemble of Corsican polyphonies. A poetic and musical suite has thus been imagined, intertwining the polyphonies created by the learned singers of A Filetta with the songs and music composed and orchestrated by Kiya Tabassian. A deeply moving album. This bold alliance draws from two regions, two living sources, opposed by geography. On one hand, the insular beauty of Corsica, between land, sky, and sea, austere and powerful, embodied in polyphonic songs that are alternately melancholic and festive; on the other hand, the refinement of the Persian musical and poetic tradition that has dictated magical laws to the East. The common denominator of these musics is certainly their modal expression, but it is much more their eminently contemporary language that the vocal sextet and the Montreal quartet sought to bring together.
