In Search of Harperfield

Description

The queen of indie, formerly a member of the group The Delgados, ends more than five years of absence and returns with a third album, In Search Of Harperfield. The title refers to Emma Pollock's parents' first home, and the theme, almost autobiographical, is that of a woman in search of the meaning of her origins. A pastoral album filled with both childhood memories and a deep retrospective linked to life, love, and family. The narration is multifaceted and deeply rooted in the past. Musically, Pollock sticks to the pop melodies and elegant songwriting of her early days while stretching percussive sounds, creating a dark atmosphere similar to that of the track 'Old Ghosts'. A few brighter gems run through this record, such as the fresh and sparkling 'Parks and Recreation', the playful 'Vacant Stare', or the soft and haunting 'The Company of The Damned'. A complex, poignant, and captivating album, perfect for getting through the winter.
